For many of my years as a doll maker and teacher, I did not think that entering competitions was of any value.  I went about my own way of doing things, and learned from books and taking seminars.  When I decided to expand my business and take on more students, I realized that I had to do more than just satisfy MYSELF that I made good dolls and was a good teacher, I had to prove to strangers that my work was worthwhile.  The best method of doing this it seemed, was to enter competitions and hopefully win awards.

have received many blue ribbons, rosettes and trophies over the years, with it all culminating in my invitation to join the exclusive ranks of that of the Doll Artisan Guild Instructors.  I have also found that teaching my students to enter competitions has been every bit as rewarding as entering them myself.

Due to the fact that the Guild does not want their Instructors competing with the students, I no longer enter competitions.  It is through my students that I now receive my "rosettes".  They continue to win blue ribbons, rosettes, and top trophies in every competition they enter.

About the Trophies

In order to qualify for a top trophy, a doll must first achieve a blue ribbon and then a Best of Category Rosette or Trophy.  Some competitions also require the doll to win a Best of Division as well.  I have not listed all the blue ribbons that I have won here, simply the ones that have won Best of Category (or equivalent) and Best of Show.  I have also not listed the few red ribbons that I have received.    In order to win a blue ribbon, you must achieve a score of 90 to 100 points.   A red ribbon comes with a score of 75 to 89 points.   Below 75 merits a third place ribbon, which is usually white in color.   Below 65 points, in most competitions, warrants a participation ribbon.   I must admit that I have, on occasion received a red ribbon.   You learn as much or more from the red ribbons than you do from the blue ribbons.......the judges have to work harder to take points off!!!!!!   (more comments required).
